The Council of Atlantic Academic Libraries is pleased to announce the recipients of the 2026 CAAL-CBPA Research Grant – Kaitlin Fuller, Erica Nekolaichuk, and Zahra Premji. Congratulations!

Kaitlin Fuller, Scholarly Communications & Health Sciences Librarian, Angus L. Macdonald Library, St. Francis Xavier University; Erica Nekolaichuk, Faculty Liaison & Instruction Librarian, Gerstein Science Information Centre, University of Toronto; and Zahra Premji, Health Research Librarian, University of Victoria Libraries, have been awarded $1,000 to help support their project, GenAI in Knowledge Synthesis: Understanding Current Search Practices.

In their proposal, Kaitlin, Erica, and Zahra propose to establish a foundational understanding of how generative AI is being integrated into knowledge synthesis (KS) search practices:

  • First, by documenting what knowledge synthesis authors are currently doing and reporting in published KS. This will be done through a scoping review.

  • Second, by exploring how health sciences librarians, as key information retrieval experts, are adopting and/or teaching these tools in their collaboration and/or consultative roles. This will be done through an online survey.

The CAAL-CBPA Research Grant is intended to encourage research by librarians and staff working in academic libraries in the region through projects which involve structured, evidence-based research. We are pleased to continue offering support to researchers in the region and look forward to the results of Kaitlin, Erica, and Zahra’s study.
