Canadian Academic Libraries Resource Sharing Agreement

CAAL-CBPA participates in the Canadian Academic Libraries Resource Sharing Agreementwhich:

  • Provides in-library reciprocal borrowing privileges to CAAL-CBPA students, faculty and staff at universities and colleges across the country. To participate in the program, you need a valid institutional ID or other designate per the policies of the home institution; and
  • Enables user communities at member institutions to freely borrow books, articles, and videos nation-wide through document delivery and Interlibrary Loans (ILL) services at their home library.

Retired faculty and staff may be included in this agreement according to the policies of the home library. If the home library normally provides library cards to its retired faculty and staff, they too may participate in this program.

Borrowing privileges and identification requirements are determined by the lending library and the regional consortia.

Review the Agreement page for a list of contacts at CAAL-CBPA Member libraries.

Consortia Canada

Consortia Canada (ConCan) is an informal group of library consortia representing all library types - public, post-secondary, health, special, and K-12 schools - working together to license electronic resources that are useful and relevant to members across the country.  Through this partnership, our members realize even larger cost savings for the e-resources they license through CAAL-CBPA.  Consortia Canada's primary goal is to contribute to the collection and organization of information and knowledge in digital form for the benefit of all Canadians.

Atlantic Health Knowledge Partnership

CAAL-CBPA has partnered with health partners throughout the regions, such as hospitals and health authorities, to collaboratively license e-resources in the health sector.  A major initiative facilitated by this agreement is our regional partnership providing access for all Atlantic Canadian residents to the Cochrane Library, an evidence-based health resource enabling medical professionals, and members of the community, to make better, evidence-informed decisions.  If you're physically located in the region, there's no cost, and no login required to access this resource.  If you're on the road, you can access it through your home institution or your public library.  Information in this resource includes:

  • actionable and to inform point-of-care decision-making
  • information on clinical trials
  • systematic reviews collating and synthesizing a vast landscape of health information

CAAL-CBPA and COPPUL Memorandum of Understanding

CAAL-CBPA and COPPUL (our western counterpart) have in place a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that establishes a framework for collaboration between our two consortia with the objectives of sharing expertise and knowledge, and building capacity.  Through this program, CAAL-CBPA members have access to webinars and events hosted by COPPUL, and they participate in ours.  This greatly expands and enriches members' opportunities to connect with colleagues, learn about a multitude of topics, and participate in lively discussions.  This agreement also enables our two consortia to realize more savings for the resources you licence when we combines our numbers to leverage larger discounts for e-resources.

Canadian Research Knowledge Network (CRKN)

The Canadian Research Knowledge Network is a partnership of Canadian universities dedicated to expanding digital content for the academic research enterprise in Canada.
