Please join me in welcoming Suzanne van den Hoogen in her new role as CAAL-CBPA’s Board Chair. Suzanne has more than twenty years of experience working in and managing academic libraries. She has been the University Librarian at Saint Mary’s University since 2018.
A Past-President of the Atlantic Provinces Library Association (APLA), she has also held leadership roles in other key regional and national organizations, including Vice-Chair of Novanet; and Secretary of the Partnership: Canada’s national network of provincial and territorial library associations. Suzanne was a member of the CFLA Truth and Reconciliation Committee and the CFLA Indigenous Matters Committee.
At CAAL-CBPA, Suzanne has served as the Vice Chair for the past two years, where she was instrumental in transitioning CAAL-CBPA to its new, much more inclusive name. She also served as the Chair of the Collaborative Research Grant Committee, and as the Board Liaison to the CAAL-CBPA Indigenous Knowledge Committee (IKC). While a member of the IKC, she worked with Committee members to advance the CAAL-CBPA’s strategic priorities, most notably the recent creation of the BIPOC Professional Development Grant and the Indigenous Professional Development Grant.
Suzanne is committed to the academic library as a strong and vibrant resource for learning and research on campus. Suzanne has a passion for education and a strong background in developing and implementing new and innovative services. Please join us in extending a warm welcome to Suzanne in her new role!
