Purpose
In order to redress the legacy of residential schools in Canada and advance the process of meaningful reconciliation with Indigenous Peoples (First Nations, Métis and Inuit[1]), the CFLA-FCAB Truth and Reconciliation Committee, in response to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada report, developed ten recommendations to help guide libraries in playing an active role in this process. As holders of cultural memory, and enablers of information literacy, libraries have a key role to play in advancing truth and reconciliation.
The Reconciliation Committee (RC) focuses on advancing several of CAAL-CBPA’s strategic goals, particularly the development of a comprehensive strategy across CAAL-CBPA to facilitate the actualization of the CFLA-FCAB TRC Report recommendations at member institutions.
The Reconciliation Committee also publishes The Shared Ground Bulletin, a monthly publication from the Committee that aims to communicate and support the committee’s ongoing work towards reconciliation aims.
