CAAL members sit on unceded and traditional territories of the Mi\u2019kmaq, Beothuk, Innu, Inuit, W\u0259last\u0259kwiyik, and Peskotomuhkati Peoples. “Treaties of Peace and Friendship” were first signed in 1725 between the British Crown and the Mi’kmaq and W\u0259last\u0259kwiyik Peoples. The treaties did not deal with surrender of lands and resources, but recognized Mi’kmaq and W\u0259last\u0259kwiyik title, and established the rules for what was to be an ongoing relationship between nations. We acknowledge with respect the diverse histories and cultures of the First Peoples of this region, and we express our gratitude as guests on this land.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n
