\"PhotoCAAL-CBPA is pleased to announce the inaugural recipient of the CAAL-CBPA BIPOC Professional Development Grant<\/a> \u2013 Yu Tat (Alex) Chan<\/strong><\/strong>.<\/p>

Originally from Hong Kong, Alex is a Library Technician at Mount Saint Vincent University responsible for the repair and maintenance of the library\u2019s collection, ensuring that materials remain accessible and in good condition for patrons. In Hong Kong, Alex owned a publishing company, KAL 50 Production, for six years. Prior to that, he worked as a Library Assistant at Hong Kong Shue Yan University.<\/p>

Alex holds a BSc in Environmental Science from the University of Hong Kong; a Professional Certificate in 3-Tier Website Design & Development Using Java from the Institute of Professional Education and Knowledge; a Diploma for Library Assistants from The Chinese University of Hong Kong; and an MEd in Lifelong Learning.<\/p>

Receiving this Grant will enable Alex to pursue the Introductory Bookbinding Course offered online by the Canadian Bookbinders and Book Artists Guild (CBBAG), enabling him to deepen his expertise in book repair and preservation, strengthen his contributions to the library, and position him for future growth in this field. This course is a prerequisite for other courses on book preservation and one of the core courses required for the CBBAG Certificate. While he has acquired basic repair skills on the job, the formal training will enable him to expand on his capabilities. The CBBAG course will provide essential foundational knowledge in bookbinding, allowing me to perform repairs with greater precision and care. Looking ahead, I am eager to contribute to preserving cultural heritage through advanced book repair and artistic bookbinding projects.<\/p>

The CAAL-CBPA BIPOC Professional Development Grant<\/a>, in the amount of $1,000, supports self-identifying Black, Indigenous Peoples, and Persons of Colour in the Atlantic Region who are either pursuing information management careers or working in the field of information management at a CAAL-CBPA member library.<\/p>
