AtlanticOER &#8211; a platform for the creation of open educational resources &#8211; will support educators across the region in developing free, online, accessible learning materials, including textbooks.<\/p><br>\n<p>\u201cWe are thrilled to see AtlanticOER officially launch, joining the incredible work of the open education community across the country\u201d, says Cynthia Holt, Executive Director of CAUL-CBUA.  \u201cBoth Educators and students can take advantage of AtlanticOER, enabling educators to create flexible and relevant learning materials while saving students money. It is a win-win situation\u201d.<\/p><br>\n<p>Through AtlanticOER, educators will have access to Pressbooks, an online platform used to create OERs. CAUL-CBUA will be providing grants of up to $2,000 per resource to assist in the creation or adaptation of OERs for courses at universities and colleges in the region, which can be developed by individual educators or collaboratively with others. The project has the potential to save students thousands of dollars per year, exponentially increasing the impact of AtlanticOER\u2019s grant program.<\/p><br>\n<p>\u201cStudents pay between $800-$1,000 per year in textbooks\u201d, says New Brunswick Student Alliance Chair Patrick Hickey. \u201cThis means that many students opt to not purchase textbooks in the first place, causing academic penalty.
