{"id":2306,"date":"2026-04-27T18:04:00","date_gmt":"2026-04-27T21:04:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/caal-cbpa.ca\/?page_id=2306"},"modified":"2026-04-28T18:19:43","modified_gmt":"2026-04-28T21:19:43","slug":"indigenous-information-professional-grant","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/caal-cbpa.ca\/en\/grants\/indigenous-information-professional-grant\/","title":{"rendered":"Indigenous Information Professional Grant"},"content":{"rendered":"\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n<p><strong><strong>Submission Deadline:<\/strong><\/strong>\u00a0Application and all accompanying documentation must be received by <strong><strong>Tuesday, May 26, 2026<\/strong><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n<p><strong><strong style=\"color: rgb(255, 255, 255);\">Purpose<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n<p>CAAL-CBPA is strongly committed to fostering diversity within our community through furthering the <a href=\"https:\/\/ehprnh2mwo3.exactdn.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/Calls_to_Action_English2.pdf\">Truth and Reconciliation Commission\u2019s Calls to Action<\/a> as well as increasing the diverse knowledge represented within our member institutions. We welcome applicants who will contribute to expanding the voices represented in our field and its scholarship.  CAAL-CBPA supports diversity, equity, and inclusion throughout our community.<\/p><br>\n\n<p>This Grant is intended to help achieve the following objectives:<br><br><\/p><ul><li>Support self-identifying Indigenous Peoples in, or from, the Atlantic Region pursuing information management careers, either directly, or in partnership with other organizations and\/or institutions.<\/li>\n<li>Assist self-identifying Indigenous Peoples working in information management careers at CAAL-CBPA member libraries, either directly, or in partnership with other organizations and\/or institutions.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"color:#ffffff;\"><strong><strong>Grant Amount<\/strong><\/strong><\/span><strong><br><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n<p>One grant of $1,000 to be be awarded annually, when merited.\u00a0 Grant awards are subject to all Canada Revenue Agency reporting requirements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"color:#ffffff;\"><strong><strong>Eligibility Criteria<\/strong><\/strong><\/span><strong><br><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Applicants must be a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident, and a resident of Atlantic Canada (who may be studying outside of Atlantic Canada).<\/li><li>Persons who self-identify as Indigenous (First Nation, M\u00e9tis, or Inuit).<\/li><li>Current employee at a CAAL-CBPA library or archive;<strong><strong>&nbsp;and\/or<\/strong><\/strong>&nbsp;is currently enrolled in, or has been accepted into, an ALA-accredited program in Library and Information Studies or a Library and Information technology program; <strong><strong>and\/or<\/strong><\/strong> has graduated from&nbsp;an ALA-accredited program in Library and Information Studies or a Library and Information technology program&nbsp;in the last 2 years.<br><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"color:#ffffff;\"><strong><strong>Ineligible Expenses<\/strong><\/strong><\/span><strong><br><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Administrative overhead costs.<\/li><li>Paying salaries for any individual already employed by the post-secondary institution. Exceptions are made for anyone who will be taking release time and will experience a reduction in income. It is also possible to pay individuals for a fixed period of time where they are not making their usual income (e.g., in the case where an individual does not make their income during the summer months, it is permissible to pay them for work during those summer months).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n<p>The Committee reserves the right to reject applications that do not adhere to the specifications below:<\/p>\n\n\n\nDescription of current or future plans in the information field.\n\n\nDescription of your planned use of grant (e.g., support for degree, project, etc.), including associated costs.\n\n\nStatement of self-identification and connection and\/or experience with community\/Nation.\n\n\n<span class=\"pagelayer-list-icon-holder\">Submission of a current r\u00e9sum\u00e9 or curriculum vitae (CV).<\/span>\n\n\nTwo letters of support or recommendations.\n\n\n<span class=\"pagelayer-list-icon-holder\">Letter of tax exemption status if applicable (grant awards are a taxable form of income).<\/span>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe activity must commence in the year for which the grant is awarded.\n\n\n<span class=\"pagelayer-list-icon-holder\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Announcements of the grant award are included on the CAAL-CBPA website, CAAL-CBPA General listserv, APLA listserv, and additional channels as appropriate. The announcements will include a picture of the recipient, so acceptance of the grant indicates your&nbsp; approval for CAAL-CBPA to use your photo in these announcements<span data-contrast=\"none\">.<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n\n\nGrant funds are disbursed in mid-June of each year. Grant cheques will be issued directly to the applicant as one lump some unless otherwise indicated. The CAAL-CBPA Executive Director will coordinate this process once the award has been announced.\n\n\nA final report will be submitted to the CAAL-CBPA Executive Director within two months of the completion of the activity.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n<p>Proposals will be adjudicated by a\u00a0subset of members from the <a href=\"https:\/\/caal-cbpa.ca\/en\/about\/committees\/reconciliation\/\">CAAL-CBPA Reconciliation Committee<\/a>.<br><br>The adjudication committee will assess all proposals using a single-blind approach.
