{"id":224,"date":"2025-06-28T15:11:31","date_gmt":"2025-06-28T15:11:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/caal-cbpa.ca\/?page_id=224"},"modified":"2025-07-29T17:59:25","modified_gmt":"2025-07-29T17:59:25","slug":"territorial-acknowledgement","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/caal-cbpa.ca\/en\/services\/resources\/territorial-acknowledgement\/","title":{"rendered":"Territorial Acknowledgement"},"content":{"rendered":"\n\n\n<h2>CAAL-CBPA<\/h2>\n<p>CAAL members sit on unceded and traditional territories of the Mi\u2019kmaq, Beothuk, Innu, Inuit, W\u0259last\u0259kwiyik, and Peskotomuhkati Peoples. &#8220;Treaties of Peace and Friendship&#8221; were first signed in 1725 between the British Crown and the Mi&#8217;kmaq and W\u0259last\u0259kwiyik Peoples. The treaties did not deal with surrender of lands and resources, but recognized Mi&#8217;kmaq and W\u0259last\u0259kwiyik title, and established the rules for what was to be an ongoing relationship between nations. We acknowledge with respect the diverse histories and cultures of the First Peoples of this region, and we express our gratitude as guests on this land.<\/p>\n<p>Les membres du CBPA si\u00e8gent sur des territoires traditionnels des peuples Mi\u2019kmaq, Beothuk, Innue, Inuit, W\u0259last\u0259kwiyik et Peskotomuhkati. Les \u00ab Trait\u00e9s de paix et d\u2019amiti\u00e9 \u00bb ont \u00e9t\u00e9 sign\u00e9s pour la premi\u00e8re fois en 1725 entre la Couronne britannique et les peuples Mi\u2019kmaq et W\u0259last\u0259kwiyik. Ces trait\u00e9s ne portaient pas sur la cession de terres et de ressources, mais reconnaissaient en fait les titres Mi\u2019kmaq et W\u0259last\u0259kwiyik, et portaient sur l\u2019\u00e9tablissement de r\u00e8gles pour ce qui devait \u00eatre une relation continue entre les nations.
